Jeffrey Earnhardt to drive for BK Racing at Talladega

Jeffrey Earnhardt will drive the No. 83 car for BK Racing at Talladega Superspeedway, the team announced Monday.
Earnhardt, the grandson of Dale Earnhardt Sr., will have Starter as a sponsor.
He’ll be in one of three BK Racing cars entered this weekend. David Ragan is in the No. 23 car, and Matt DiBenedetto, who regularly drives the No. 83 car, will be in the No. 93 car this weekend.
“I’m really excited to drive the No. 83 Starter Toyota Camry for the fall race at Talladega,” Earnhardt said in a statement from the team. “It’s my first Cup Series race at Talladega, my first race with BK Racing, the first time anyone from our family competes in a Toyota and it’s the 25th anniversary of my grandfather’s victory at Talladega. Having this opportunity with an iconic American partner like Starter is an incredible honor. I can’t remember being so pumped up for a race and sincerely appreciate our friends at Starter for their support.”
Dale Earnhardt Sr. won a record 10 Cup races at Talladega. His first victory there came in 1983. He won five of nine Talladega races from 1990-94.
Doug Richert, who served as Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s crew chief when he won the first of his seven titles in 1980, will be Jeffrey Earnhardt’s crew chief this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to once again returning to the track as crew chief with an Earnhardt behind the wheel,” Richert said in a statement from the team. “The Earnhardt family has played such an important part in my racing career; starting in 1978 with Dale Sr. and then winning a championship with him in 1980, it’s very cool to work with the fourth generation of the family.”
Jeffrey Earnhardt regularly drives the No. 32 for Go Fas Racing but Bobby Labonteis driving that car this weekend, giving Earnhardt the opportunity to drive for BK Racing.
Jeffrey Earnhardt’s appearance at Talladega will continue the family’s streak of starts at the track. An Earnhardt family member has started every Talladega Sprint Cup race there since 1980.

Kyle Busch wins Kansas Lottery 300, few Xfinity Chase drivers left unscathed

Kyle Busch led 150 of 200 laps Saturday in winning the Xfinity Series’ Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway.
Busch earned his 85th Xfinity win and ninth of the year.
Busch did it in a race where only three of the eight remaining Chase drivers finished on the lead lap. Busch had been a lap down and took a wavearound after a caution came out in the middle of green-flag stops.
“There was a lot of things trying to work against us there towards the end,” Busch said. “We just persevered and made it through everything.”
Busch has won the past three Xfinity race at Kansas Speedway.
All five Chase drivers who finished off the lead lap were involved in accidents with less than 35 laps left in the race.
Busch was followed by Elliott Sadler,Daniel SuarezJoey Logano and Kyle Larson. The third Xfinity Chase driver on the lead lap was Blake Koch (ninth).
WHO HAD A GOOD RACE: Elliott Sadler finished second, earning his 15th straight top 10 … Daniel Suarez led six laps and finished third, his seventh top five in eight races … Regan Smith finished sixth for his first top 10 in three Xfinity starts this year … Matt DiBenedetto finished 11th. In 15 Xfinity starts this season, it’s only the second race he’s finished.
WHO HAD A BAD RACE: Cole Custer was involved in three cautions, including a five-car wreck on Lap 165 that collected Chase drivers Darrell Wallace Jr and Justin Allgaier. Custer finished 35th, Wallace 33rd and Allgaier 14th … Brendan Gaughan was another Chase causality, spinning out of Turn 4 with 23 laps left and slid through the grass, receiving significant damage. After being cleared in the medical center, Gaughan dashed back to his car, returning to the race with less than 10 laps left and finishing 31st … Erik Jones raced up front most of the day until contact with Kyle Larson on a restart with 24 to go sent him into Ty Dillon. Jones’ Toyota began smoking from damage, and he pitted before finishing 15th, one lap down.
NOTABLE: If Team Penske’s No. 22 car does not win the Nov. 5 race at Texas Motor Speedway, it will have been a full year since the team’s last victory.
NEXT:  O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway on Nov. 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET

Sprint Fan Vote leaders for All-Star Race are Blaney, DiBenedetto, Elliott, Larson and Patrick

If you haven’t cast your ballot in the Sprint Fan Vote for next week’s Sprint All-Star Race, time is running out.

Fans have until 5 p.m. ET on May 20 to make their choice on either the NASCAR Mobile App or at www.nascar.com/SprintFanVote.

Results will be announced shortly after that in victory lane at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In addition, votes shared on Facebook or Twitter get double the value.

Sprint officials announced the top five vote-getters to date – out of a field of 30 drivers – but have not revealed who’s leading.

Rather, the top five have been revealed solely in alphabetical order, not by the numbers of votes that they’ve received thus far.

The top five vote-getters thus far: Ryan Blaney, Matt DiBenedetto, Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson and Danica Patrick.

Patrick won the Sprint Fan Vote in both 2013 and 2015, becoming the first two-time winner in the event’s history. She would make further history if she wins the Vote again this year.

Blaney and Elliott are currently leading in Sunoco Rookie of the Year competition.
