Although it won’t happen this year, Kyle Busch said there is some sponsor interest in him following his brother and competing in the Indianapolis 500.
Asked who would be hardest to convince to let him attempt to run the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same day, Busch said it would be car owner Joe Gibbs.
Busch also said wife Samantha hasn’t been too enthusiastic about the prospect of it happening some day.
‘‘I’ve talked to her about it a little bit and she’s just like, ‘I’ll be there when the time comes, but don’t tell me,’ ” Busch said. ‘‘Then the sponsor aspect, they’ve actually shown some interest in it and that was kind of fun for me to hear that there might actually be an opportunity there if I continue my relationship with them from the Cup side to the IndyCar side. We have to work out all those details and it’s certainly not going to happen for this year, but maybe in some future years we’ll see what we can put together.”
Kurt Busch finished sixth in the 2014 Indianapolis 500 to earn Rookie of the Year honors. He was the first NASCAR driver to win that award since Donnie Allison in 1970 after finishing fourth.
Kyle Busch’s immediate focus, though, is on this weekend’s Xfinity and Sprint Cup races at Bristol Motor Speedway. He’s won his last four NASCAR starts across the three national series. He’s entered in both the Xfinity and Sprint Cup races this weekend.
